Today Serge lost no time by stopping to look at the scenery or say hello: his many stops were caused by a strong case of diarrhea.  His face was distorted all day due to the stomach pains, which got worse as he ran.<\/p>\n

But Serge ran, in spite of it!  His face was distorted but he went on and we asked ourselves where he got the energy to persevere.  It’s no use asking questions such as Why? What is the purpose?  Because even I, after 9 years and 5 continental crossings, sometimes have trouble finding an answer.  More than anything, I find it harder and harder to watch his suffering, even if I know that it’s his choice and deep down I don’t feel sorry for him.  I only hope that he gets some pleasure out of what he accomplishes every day, in the struggle between body and spirit he has taken on.
 
This evening I’m reassured because Serge was entranced by the beauty which surrounds us.  In spite of a few drops of rain in the afternoon we had a gala dinner outside: a dish of  rice-beans-meat, out of  cans, sauteed potatoes and Kirghiz cheese (smoked and very salty).<\/p>\n

Shafhat, our driver, gave us some fresh garlic to eat because it is supposed to be very good for you at high altitudes! <\/p>\n

The night will surely be chilly.  As Serge says, we are in Paradise and all very happy to be here.  “We would like time to stand still” said Jean-Marc.<\/p>\n
