For the first time in six months, Serge’s watch was not completely charged because of a poor contact.  At 7H00, catastrophe, we had to charge the watch and initialize it: 15 minutes lost.  7H15, Serge left, accompanied by Mr. Fang. The heat is overwhelming: 40\u00b0 Celsius.  Mr. Fang slowed down and since he wanted to run the entire stage he didn’t finish until after dark.<\/p>\n

Serge passed the 14,000 km mark at 16H28′ local time, super happy and as he said: “You have to stay cool headed even if it’s difficult in such heat.” Our Sergio always manages to keep his sense of humor.<\/p>\n

Today, our four new followers are having trouble with the heat, especially because the fatigue of a short night on Friday is making itself felt.  Apparently, it wasn’t for nothing that they were up at 3 AM, since the French team qualified.  Thanks to all of you for your e-mails on the subject.  The World Cup continues, Serge’s mad run too and it will go on until sometime during the first two weeks of September.<\/p>\n

The southern part of the Henan Province, which we are crossing, is very pleasant.  It’s green everywhere, including the mountains.  There are lots of rivers, woods and ponds.  This part of central China has a hot\/temperate, humid climate.  The word “temperate” seems inappropriate with the 40\u00b0 Celsius temperature we have today.  More than 95 million people live in this province, which is smaller than the Shaanxi Province.  Serge is hot, very hot and his body has trouble regulating its temperature.<\/p>\n
