A lazy morning in the land of the rising sun.<\/p>\n

+1 hour on our watches.  We are now 7 hours ahead of France and will be until we get to Tokyo. <\/p>\n

At 7H00 Laure and Eliane were already up and ready.  Last night we were welcomed by the Mizuno staff and in minutes the 24 bags were in the 3 vehicles.  These had been planned to either take us to the hotel or to be ready for organizing tomorrow.<\/p>\n

8H00, Serge had breakfast with Fulvio.  He took his time and it’s no doubt the first time in almost 7 months.<\/p>\n

9H30, Serge had an appointment with a dentist because eating a fig several weeks ago a tooth came out.<\/p>\n

10H30, back at the hotel, Serge got ready for a reception at city hall with the mayor of Fukuoka.<\/p>\n

11H15, meeting at city hall, then a reception given by the mayor followed by a press conference worthy of a VIP.<\/p>\n

12H30, Serge had just enough time to eat before the meeting at city hall, where tents and orchestras were set up.  The mayor made a speech and Serge expressed thanks.<\/p>\n

13H00, once again a departure with ceremony and music, for about 8 weeks.<\/p>\n

The city of Fukuoka, at the North west of the island of Kyushu, is nicely decorated with multicolored floats in which there are some silk objects.  It’s a festival which is currently taking place.  At the city hall reception we learned that Fukuoka and the Island of Kyushu are candidates to host the 2016 Olympic Games.  There are many flags in connection with this candidacy.<\/p>\n

At the 10th kilometer, Serge went by the offices of Mizuno, at the edge of the domestic airport, and met Mr. Ueji of Mizuno, who came from Tokyo.  A toast was offered to the runners who accompanied Serge.  The Mizuno team, who did an excellent job organizing this departure in Japan, was also present.<\/p>\n

Serge will be accompanied for several days by Mr. Koshita, an ultra runner.  He has prepared the road book, worthy of a telephone book.  Precision is the name of the game and we surely won’t have trouble finding our way.<\/p>\n

Serge’s comments for the day were:<\/p>\n

“It’s so hot!  I would like to run in shorts but I’m afraid of getting sunburned.  There are so many traffic lights that you can’t make headway (in Japan, when the little man is red you don’t move until he turns green). This departure from Fukuoka has been super organized.”<\/p>\n

Serge is radiant, he who was afraid of breaking the rhythm during the rather unusual transfer in the midst of his daily race.  As of tomorrow, he will resume his usual rhythm.<\/p>\n
