18,000 km in 13 days, 16 hours and 24 minutes.<\/p>\n

While Serge went fishing for kilometers, we spent a day at the speed as the seaside fishermen .  The mist this morning kept us from seeing Hokkaido Island which is connected to the main Island of Honshu by an undersea tunnel, like the Island of Kyushu. Along the coast there is a succession of small villages and ancient wooden dwellings.  Time seems to have stopped in this part of Japan.  Maritime activity is intense and far from being industrialized: a multitude of small fishing boats floats in the distance and some have already returned to the pier.  We enjoyed this tranquil existence for a while.  It was in this atmosphere that Serge clocked 18,000 kilometers.  It took Serge more than 14 days to run each of the last three 1,000 km so obviously he has perked up: “18,000 km is the total of the crossings of the USA, South America and Africa.  End to end, these three continents represented 250 days, whereas on this crossing I have spent 5 days less and at one go.  This gives me some ideas for what remains.”  He won’t tell us what these ideas are but he hasn’t lost his love of numbers.<\/p>\n
