This Sunday morning, Ninohe is getting ready for its festival, which will take place in the afternoon.  Main Street is decked out with lanterns and gigantic floats are waiting quietly for their moment of glory.<\/p>\n

At 13H00, the street came alive.  More than just the floats, men in traditional costumes marched past, drumming on their bass drums.<\/p>\n

By that time, Serge was already far away, on Route 4 which leads to Tokyo.  After 40 kilometers and with no steep hills or curves, a sign said that we were at an altitude of 458 meters.  By car we noticed little or no climb but Serge noticed it from departure. “The boy was tired but fully aware of the situation!”<\/p>\n

The temperatures on the East coast are milder and the humidity is considerably lower.  Serge’s shorts were completely dry until noon and his undershirt only slightly damp between the thorax and stomach.  Three days ago, his clothes were wringing wet at 6H00 AM.  It’s astounding to have such a change, even in temperature, in such a short time.  This morning, at departure, we had goose bumps: 15\u00b0 Celsius, which isn’t bad at 4H00 AM.<\/p>\n

There are mountains on each side of us.  We descended to the city of Sendai, which you can easily find on the map of Japan, even if you don’t have the software which lets you use the GPS points. <\/p>\n

Serge is still putting ice on his tendon and using mouth wash.  He has lost more weight and it’s too bad that I didn’t keep his reference weight.  Serge gives us the impression that he can reach Tokyo living on “the race and ice water.” <\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
