\nDespite its location in a tropical region the climate is temperate with temperatures moderated by the cold Peruvian Current (Humbold) off shore and fogs which blanket the coastal area from May to October, the coldest months. In the coastal area, the average temperatures reach 20\u00b0, rather cool considering the latitude.<\/p>\n
\nThe arid and sandy plain is mainly covered with some desertic vegetation (shrubs, grasses).<\/p>\n
\nThe wildlife is limited in variety. The coastal plain and the islands are inhabited by sea birds (seagulls, albatrosses )and by reptiles and invertebrates.<\/p>\n
\nLima, the largest city in Peru, is part of a fast growing metropolitan area.<\/p>\n
