It was a Sunday under the sign of the footrace in this small corner of Europe, between Luxembourg and Belgium.
500 marathons in 288 days 3 hours and 25 minutes
This morning Arlette is leaving us to take the TGV (high speed train) and return to our green Normandy? Arlette has handed over to Brigitte the responsibility for preparing fresh fruit juice every morning at 6:00 a.m. for the “Boss Runner” and she is letting her man, Daniel, stay with us for about 40 days. Thank you, Arlette, for these two weeks of patience and devotion to Serge and the organization.
The 4 new arrivals came with our four wheel drive (the one that went from Paris to Tokyo) which caused a lot of tongue wagging because Serge did not want a van and had eyes only for the four wheel drive for this Around the European Union race. So I have to say that he is delighted to see it but not as much as he is to see his son, Sébastien and Florian one of Seb’s friends, and Brigitte and Jean-Yves, our neighbors and friends who are taking care of our house and our cat, Figaro. Brigitte, whom some of you have already recognized, is the “Queen of Coconut baked custard” which Serge has already been able to eat during a refueling.
So our caravan has grown and each person will find his place in this new organization.
Today there were lots of encounters. Nicolas, who called this morning, said he would come run a few kilometers. Jean-Pierre returned as promised with his daughter, Stéphanie and his son, David, at 10:00 a.m. Then this afternoon Michel and Claude joined the dream team and even Jean-Pierre’s grandchildren, Dorian and Jérôme were with us to celebrate the 500 marathons near Buzenol. Thank you, Jean-Pierre, for giving us the detailed map of Belgium.
We are in Wallonia (French speaking Belgium) and everyone speaks French with a slight accent, but we are staying in an RV park where the owners speak Flemish. It plunges us in the atmosphere we will have for the rest of our journey in Hergé’s country.
