J307 - Thursday, August 19: Spaarnwoude (in a loop)

77.74 km  – 10H47’
Altitude: 5m

This morning René and Daniel leave with Serge at 6:30 for the circuit at Spaarnwoude.  The district is blocked by barriers which stop or direct traffic elsewhere.  The boats are coming in today by the canal from the North Sea which links Ijmuiden to Amsterdam.  The traffic increases all morning and cyclists and pedestrians head in great numbers to the canal.

On a portion of «his circuit, » Serge merges with this never ending flow of onlookers and it keeps his mind busy.  Serge wonders how Laure will be able to reach the parking lot. Brigitte and Roger are back too (Roger is not in top form and begins to show signs of fatigue; our Carrier Pigeons’ schedule has been very heavy since the beginning of summer).  The question remains: how are they going to reach us?  But every problem has a solution and everyone reaches the safe haven at the parking lot, where tomorrow around 4:00 p.m. we will celebrate the clocking of 22,582 km.

Chef « Brigitte » has put snails on this evening’s menu and I know some people who are already licking their lips in anticipation.  The best restaurant of the Around the European Union Footrace is back with us for two days and the owners are smiling, as usual.

Here is our agenda for the coming days:
Saturday 21, departure via ferry from Ijmuiden to Newcastle on the English coast.  We will arrive Sunday morning at 9:00 (Serge is already worried about the time he will have left to run his 77 km).  We will be in England and Scotland for 4 days.

Wednesday, August 25 we will take the ferry from Cairnryan to reach Larne in Northern Ireland.  It is a short crossing but everything depends on the ferry schedule.  It will be a short day too.

Sunday, August 29 run through Dublin.
Monday, August 30, ferry from Rosslare back to England at Fishguard.  The ferry schedules are not compatible with a full day of running but we have no choice.
Sunday, September 5: run through London.
Monday morning, September 6 ferry from Dover to Calais and on the evening of the 6th the stage will finish at Saint-Omer
