Hello, it’s us. Since Laure is busy we are doing the log. It will be short because we don’t have the talent of our lady boss! This morning at the start we go astray and lead our Boss Runner down the wrong road. At km 5 we pick up the correct itinerary, which means that the stage today is at least 3 km longer than planned; however, since Serge loves asphalt it doesn’t bother him. At km 10 three runners join us: Daniel, Georges and Daniel. They stay with us until km 55. In the meantime, David and Jean-Pierre, his father, who have already been with us in Luxemburg and Belgium, join the pack and stay until the finish. They take turns at the wheel and at km 40 Jean-Charles is dropped off by his wife and goes with us to Place Stanislas, where the finish takes place. Serge has a bit of an upset stomach and is not talkative, preferring to suffer in silence on the road, which he says is long and difficult. His running mates find that he is fast, especially on the many positive inclines which are characteristic of the 339th day of the Around the European Union Footrace. The event of the day takes place at just slightly after km 54: 25,000 km! The times are hastily jotted on paper and the traditional ceremony takes place at the finish. It was exactly at 14 hours and 22 minutes! Karine and David, our hosts last night join us to run a bit in the afternoon.
Toward the end of the course, the road is filled with runners, all the way to the entrance to Nancy, the meeting point for a big group of runners, many of whom are youngsters from the AS Nancy Lorraine soccer school, the Sluc Basket and the youngest from the AF Laxou (soccer club)
It is a beautiful finish in blazing sunshine on this magnificent square. Let us not forget the visit from Jacquie, with her doggie. She has sent us many e-mails of encouragement since the start at Paris. Bruno is here with his parents. Our visitors have spoiled us all day long: ham, cheese, cookies, chocolates, Belgian beer and Champagne!
The organization of this finish is expertly planned by Mr. Assailly, Alsace-Lorraine Regional Director of the UFF, in cooperation with the Nancy municipality. Two UFF members guide Serge on the last 7 km and the very busy entrance to the city. Thanks to all the organizers and the actors on this beautiful but tough Day. Serge confessed to me that he had not had such a difficult day for a long time.
