lima
Lima, capital of Peru and of Lima department. Lima is situated in East central Peru between the Pacific ocean and the Andes, in Peru’s arid coastal region.
This region is a long arid stretch of land extending the entire length of the country. It’s an upland region, with towering mountain ranges, lofty plateaus, as well as deep valleys and gorges. The numerous rivers which rise in the Andes and flow steeply to the Pacific Ocean have enabled the irrigation of the region.
70% of the inhabitants speak Spanish, the official language in Lima for a long time. In 1975, the Quechua, one of the main Native American languages was recognized as well.
In the southern ranges of the Andes, the Peruvians also speak the Aymara, another native language.
About 93% of Peruvians are Christian, most of them Catholic.
Climate :
Despite its location in a tropical region the climate is temperate with temperatures moderated by the cold Peruvian Current (Humbold) off shore and fogs which blanket the coastal area from May to October, the coldest months. In the coastal area, the average temperatures reach 20°, rather cool considering the latitude.
Flora :
The arid and sandy plain is mainly covered with some desertic vegetation (shrubs, grasses).
Fauna :
The wildlife is limited in variety. The coastal plain and the islands are inhabited by sea birds (seagulls, albatrosses )and by reptiles and invertebrates.
Economy :
Lima, the largest city in Peru, is part of a fast growing metropolitan area.
It’s the biggest administrative, commercial, manufacturing and cultural center in the country.
Most Peruvian towns and industries are concentrated in the coastal plain.

Running...
What makes run Serge GIRARD ?
Of course the concept of challenge, but especially a challenge launched against himself, which enables him to discover his owns limits.
That passes by a “mentalisation” of every moment, as well it is true as for him, the record raises more of mental than of the physique.
“Ultra-running” : a passion to be divided
Serge GIRARD ‘s last exploits made it possible to discover that the “ultra-running” is an extraordinary mean of communication : of course, near the initiates but also near “no sportmen”. Beyond the exploit, in fact the human values carried by the adventure which is a passion for the public, those are values of the sport-adventure.
A simple relationship with nature :
To cross a continent in running is one of the simplest relation that we can have with the nature. It is this same simplicity which brings closer Serge to his public, because everybody can run at this rhythm.
A man of team :
Because it is the team who gains.
Professionals, already at his sides in his races in USA and in Australia : physiotherapist, podiatrist, logistician, drivers, will be with Serge in this sporting and human adventure.
The running : a world phenomenon
That we speak about jogging or competition, the running is one of the principal sport that french people practice : 29,2% of them run (CREDOC investigations).
4000 races on road are organized each year in France. All the world capitals have their marathons. True social phenomenon in constant progression, the running is the way for everybody to escape, to travel and to discover at the same time as its own limits an extraordinary hygiene of life.
