Indianapolis, capital of Indiana, is situated in the East of the United States.

There were 731,000 inhabitant in 1990. Indianapolis is located in the Corn Belt, a fertile agricultural region. Indianapolis is 5 hours ahead GMT.

Indianapolis is  a commercial, industrial, manufacturing, transportation and cultural centre.It was founded in 1820 by Alexander Ralston who had worked on the plans of Washington D.C.

Indianapolis has a continental climate. In September, the temperature reaches 25°C. The Indianapolis 500 is known worldwide, it is a car-race. Thirty-three contestants take part in this sport-event , they cover 500 miles in a single day.

C’est un célèbre circuit automobile (longueur : 2.5 miles soit 4 kilomètres) où chaque année, à la fin de mai, a lieu la non moins célèbre course des 500 miles, l’Indy 500. Le jour de la course, 33 pilotes prennent le départ dans des monoplaces plus puissants que les formules 1 (environ 700 chevaux) mais aussi plus lourds. Le début de la matinée est consacré au discours du shérif et à des défilés puis à 11h, le départ est donné. Durant tout le mois ont lieu les préparatifs de la course et les essais.

Columbus is in a humid region. Temperatures can reach 38°C in summer and – 28°C in winter. The main cultures are corn and soya. It’s one of the most agreeable towns in the area.
