1st arrival of a stage in Normandy
A second stage run in the sunshine and a night spent in the warmth of the home of Alain who welcomed us last evenng.
At 8:30 AM we were at the door of the Pissarro high school where 4 or 5 brave souls were waiting for us, among whom Amaury, the president of the DJD chapter, joined by Thierry on bike. They were to guide Serge to the entrance of Vauréal
Serge’s foot steps led us to the village of « Courdimanche , » “Short Sunday » which was a name predestined for this second stage. We left Val d’Oise via the Vexin and la Roche Guyon with its magnificent castle before entering the department of l’Eure.
Serge is running well; he is feeling fit and runs at an average of 8 km/hour. He’s enjoying the scenery!
At 4:00 PM he passes Claude Monet’s gardens in Giverny before some 15 runners from around St. Marcel arrive to finish the stage with him. The procession of runners crosses the Seine before reaching the stadium of Cosec where some 50 people are waiting. It is 5:00PM sharp, Serge is right on time.
Today finishes with a lap run by big and small, once again united and with Mr. Volpatti, Mayor of St. Marcel, at the finish line to welcome all these courageous runners. The municipality is most hospitable and drinks are offered in the gymnasium. It’s 6:15 PM when we leave the gym. Serge shows signs of fatigue and a night of rest awaits him before a departure which will be given by 200 of the town’s school children.
