Flying Start ! This morning, at 5h33, Serge sets out to conquer the Californian tarmack. Having run for three hours, Serge gets on the wrong way. 70 kilomètres later, his muscles are killing him. The excitement of the first day ? Serge started too fast , much too fast . He has run at an average of 10 or 11 kilometres an hour.

He stays for an hour and a half on the road, doubled up, struck with cramps.

Friday, August 8 th : 29, 8 miles ( 48 kilometers )

Interruption of the stage. Stomac cramps force us to stop.. Serge is taken to hospital in emergency. He stays there for 4 hours. The chronometer is still running… Will he finish the race ? ? Our spirits hit rock bottom.

Saturday, August 9 th : 52 , 8 miles ( 85 kilometers ) The real Start

A few kilometers away from Victorville, Serge sets off at 6h10 am, half way between Los Angeles and Barstow. We are on the ” route 66 “, in the middle of the Mojave desert. After two difficult days and a four hours’ stay in Victorville hospital the day before, to rehydrate, Serge makes a fresh start.
