This evening Serge said, « Only 150 days to go, » much and little at the same time!
There is nothing special to tell. The sky is a beautiful blue and it’s a superb day. Serge has been applying sun block for the past 4 days and for 4 days he is twisted when he runs, like in Poland. If you ask him where it hurts, he says everywhere. And indeed that is the problem, general discomfort. There is no variety in the scenery; we are still lost in the midst of forests and occasionally come across a village at the edge of a lake.
At 3:45 PM I realize that I forgot a bag at the farm where we slept last night, so I leave to drive 155 km. I can give a short talk on the Finnish roads: they are in good condition; there is an 80km speed limit on the main roads we are taking, 60km/hr. in medium sized towns and 40km/hr. in villages. The speed limit is respected by cars; some trucks and tractors are less scrupulous but generally speaking everyone is careful because fines are stiff. We have gone for several hundred kilometers and have not seen a traffic light. This morning we passed 6 cars, René was counting. I don’t know if it is permitted but drivers are often holding a cell phone to their ear. And lastly, in front of schools or libraries bicycles are left unchained.
As soon as I got back, at 5:36 PM, Serge stops. The team was waiting for me to go to our camp site on the lake.
We eat outside and at 7:40 Serge is in bed, after having read his messages.
