D13 – 73.1Km
Friday, December 30
SAULXURES-LES-BULGNEVILLE – MOYEMONT
73.1Km – 10H13′
This entire stage takes place in the Vosges.
After a hot breakfast for 9 people, Jean-Yves drove Serge to the start. At 8H00 the temperature was -14°C. Serge was accompanied by David, who came from Thionville, with his wife who acted as follower, for 41Km. Serge looked like a “frosted” runner (see the photos of the day). At 10H30, for the third time since the beginning, Serge lengthened his stage in the city of Vittel: +3Km and 30 minutes lost before we got him on the right road. It’s a bit much because we were four vehicles — each blocked in different parts of the city, just a slight lack of coordination. Sorry Serge !
Yesterday Stéphanie administered care and a reflex massage to Serge’s feet (Stéphanie is a chiropodist from Rennes). What pleasure for our runner. The situation seems satisfactory and the feet are not in bad condition. Toenails are not too too good, with some bruises and slight inflammation.
At 11H30, at the Poirier col (5433m): Brigitte, Stéphanie, Jean-Yves and Thomas left for their home out west. Snow was falling heavily and we wished them a safe journey. As for us, we had bright sunshine all the way to Dompaire. At 13H30 Serge had covered 41Km.
Eric, who lives in Nomexy, met Serge to accompany him for part of the stage. David gave up his place to him and confirmed: running in such cold is clearly not for muscles.
Serge will pass the first 1000 kilometers on Saturday. As he likes to say: “it will be 19 slices of 1000, the road is still long but we are calm, adapting to new conditions every day.”
Serge went by car to Raon-l’Etape. The town had been contacted well in advance and made available to us the gymnasium, where we could eat, bathe and sleep. A small reception was organized by Jean-Claude, a local baker. Mr. Dautrey, the sports manager was present to welcome Serge.
It’s snowing heavily this evening and tomorrow Serge will pass the Vosges massif, which includes the Donon pass.
Once again, as is our habit every weekend, you will find our summaries on Monday.
