Since yesterday, the approach to Shanghai is making itself felt.  There may be 60 kilometers between cities, but it’s as if we never leave them.  It’s a long, urban line and, as always, polluted and noisy.  Today Serge’s T-shirt ended up in the trash because the yellow and gray color encrusted in the cloth made it impossible to save.  We hardly dare think what we are breathing.

We didn’t even realize that we are not far from Lake Tai, running along the city of Suzhou, which is known for its gardens and canals: “the Venice of the East.”

Tomorrow, Serge has to stop at the gates of Shanghai and to do this he has increased his mileage today.  As of tomorrow, the countdown begins, with tight timing for the arrival at and departure from this gigantic metropolis.

Fulvio, one of the four cameramen, joined us yesterday on the road.  He left us in Istanbul on February 13th, in the snow.  Here he is back with us, in the heat.

Even though he got up at 2:00 AM, Serge put in a good day. After the trough of the wave, Serge is surfing on the crest.  The famous sine wave is very real.

Serge is on top — may it last!
