The sun has just come up, once again a beautiful day. It was time because Serge’s feet were shriveling up.
We are gazing at a splendid landscape, which has been transformed by the sunshine. At last we can admire the snow covered peaks of the Velebit Mountains, the summit of which reaches 1747 m. So close to the sea this panorama is remarkable.
We are leaving the coast to head to the north of Zadar toward the city of Sibenik. From there we will again follow the coast to Split and on to Dubrovnik.
For a few kilometers the countryside spreads out before us: vines, fruit trees, olive trees, small herds of goats and sheep. The villages are deserted: where are their inhabitants? We pass several ruined houses which are riddled with bullet holes, evidence of a not very distant past. The houses are either brand new or abandoned. All this gives a rather strange feeling.
Serge takes advantage of the sunshine and the mild climate (16°C) to go on, always even-tempered and not very talkative.
