I’M BACK …
8h30 am, on the motorway that leads to SAO PAULO, Serge’s slim profile walks on the side of the road. The view of the straight lines shows us the daily lot of our runner. Gigantic effort… we can get the measure of what he’s achieving. These long tongue-like roads have been his daily surrounding for many days now, a sort of languor settles down. Whatever the scenery, provided we have the thrill of the arrival. The scenery now, he tends to forget it ? the external condition of the race, like the wind which has blown nearly all morning and that he hasn’t cared about. But believe me, it wasn’t our idea of fun. Only one thing counts from now on, his hip. Still and always. Not mentioning the pain it gives him, it ruins his pleasure. The pleasure of enjoying his last hundreds of miles. The anti-inflammatory seems effective. Today’s stage has reassured him, confidence is back, serge hopes to cover more miles. The road to follow is signposted not to say arrowheaded. The meetings are still as pleasant. From the fan of foot races who asks for an autograph to the policeman who wonders what a running pedestrian can be doing on the hard-shoulder. When we explain the situation, some people are taken aback, some wave their hands. All express in their way recognition and respect towards what our national Sergio is achieving.
Vamos Sergio, Gamba…
RIO is waiting for you, arms in cross. In ten days you will touch happiness with your finger tips.
