It was a pleasant day and a very welcome sun appeared at the end of the morning to celebrate the 5000 km.

Serge fairly galloped.  He is happy to have a good quarter of the race behind him. The celebratory sign appeared, prepared by Joël, René and Georges.  Also to celebrate the occasion we opened the bottle of Champagne we have been carrying from the start (a gift in Paris on December 18 from my brother, Philippe).  Serge wet his lips, while the rest of our splendid team savored the nectar.  There was a smile on everyone’s face.

“Bravo for the 5000 km, Serge” to which Serge replied “Bravo for our 5000 km, because these kilometers represent a team effort.”

The region we are crossing is fertile and good for farming.  Tractors are an integral part of the scene.  We could almost think we were in Normandy.  Serge covered today’s 75,4 km in record time, on almost flat terrain and with a favorable wind.  He likes to finish his days early because it means he can take advantage of his short evening.  The team also makes use of the time for normal occupations: today it’s laundry day.

As for Serge, (he shaved three days ago and the day before yesterday he cut his own hair) he is relaxing and will have  a well-earned massage.
