In spite of the sun and a fantastically blue sea, the Paris-Tokyo race is in mourning today.  René’s mother died on February 23 and the burial was this morning in Ambérieux.  René chose to stay with the caravan: “It doesn’t make a difference if I am here or there.”  It’s true, the pain and the thoughts are the same.  As a sign of mourning, Serge is wearing a black arm band and the team held hands for a minute to say a prayer.  René picked a few wild cyclamens and threw them into the sea.  We send our condolences to the members of the family who were gathered for the burial.

Such is life, the road lies ahead for Serge, for the team.
