J27 – 1/13/2006

We said goodbye to our hosts this morning in a very good mood, ready to face a new day.  Their hospitality restored us, especially as they gave us two home made sausages.

And we left the mountains for a flat route that allowed Serge to maintain a good average.  The first part was rather calm, with roads crossing villages, plowed fields and vineyards.  At the end of the day as we approached towns the traffic became dense and with the fatigue  stress was felt again.  Physically Serge feels good and the various tendons in his legs do not bother him.

Eliane and René had a lot of interested spectators who stopped to ask them what Serge was doing.  The Germans, Austrians and Northern Italians did not seem at all interested in our caravan, which caused frowns if we slowed their progress.  Perhaps it’s the sunshine and blue, cloudless sky that has sparked interest in us.

Tomorrow, Saturday, we will pass the 2000Km mark and as Serge says so well “it is indeed the second slice.”
