It’s hot at CAMPO…

It’s not that the temperature is at its maximum in the region of CAMPO GRANDE, but this morning, the atmosphere got quite tense on the way out of town, at the 25.5th mile (41ème km) exactly Serge asks to stop, then to lie down, he pulls faces and curls up in pain, his hands on his stomach "Qué passa ?" Cramps, violent stomach cramps that make him twist and turn in pain, many answers to that, he simply caught a cold, the night has been particularity cold between 4 am. and 6 am. The meal of the day before, or the reaction of the anti-inflammatory (for his hip). Make your choice …whatever happens, after twenty odd minutes’stop at the stand Serge starts running again, his pain softens, his moral comes back.. Serge increases his pace, looking straight ahead.

The note of the day, turned to our friends (from now on) the truck drivers. I don’t know if

there is a trade union here for the corporation but the profession in the country is recognised,

and respected by all the population. The biggest part of the freight cereal productions are

transported by trucks.

Since this morning, after a radio call from one of our Brazilian drivers, all the road

microcosm which heads from MATO GROSSO to the south and vice versa, knows there is a

French man running on the road side heading for RIO. It was a permanent danger for Serge

(and still is). A solidarity between them is born. The horns join in unison, an exchange

admittedly ephemeral. Serge admits to have had a little fright. See you tomorrow and, if you

remember, the 25th of October is Serge’s birthday. Hoping he’ll have enough breath to blow

out his candles…
