SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 2nd / DAY 4

64 km   7 hours and 9 mn

5am: getting up time . Serge’s day starts with a big breakfast, then it’s his feet’s turn and finally he has a wash. The runner is ready to face another “work day”.

The first 7km are covered at a brisk pace. Then it’s a disaster. Serge can no longer run, his right calf aches terribly. It’s due to a lack of oxygen which doesn’t enable the muscles to work in good condition. It results from the difficulty of the first three days. He sets off again but walking. After 35km, his calf is less swollen and less painful, he can run again but at a slow pace. Today our route is easy since we ‘re following the course of a river (rio). From 3700m we go down to 3500m, it’s more or less flat, what a relief! A bit of rest.

The scenery is beautiful. At the end of the day, Serge’s spirits are high.
