J5 – 9/3/2001

MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 3rd / DAY 5

81,5 km in 10 hours and 40 mn

Start from Parco, altitude 3 500 m

We cross Huncayo, first big town since Lima, Serge runs in a polluted air. First big day for Serge as far as the distance and the duration go. He is worn out but satisfied with the distance covered.

Anecdote: he can’t have felt tired enough since he has helped push a car!!!

We’re worried about the progress of our caravan, our front car is too loaded and stalls whenever we drive up tracks.

We set up the camp at Pampa Cruz(3600m). We must surround it with a plastic band, otherwise we’d be invaded by the locals and unable to manoeuvre. The camp is the big attraction: the photos, the webcam, the website.. They are also impressed by the flamboyant red cars.

Serge lies on the table before having his dinner and going to bed, he is ready to drop.
